BODY OF INSTRUMENT
We might view the body of instrument (controller) as a small "guitar" shown on picture above. If we are right handed, jut imagine this virtual tapdrum with guitar strap and hang on our shoulder like a guitar. We will see the neck of drumitar on the left side of our body. Our right fingers will play on the right side (pads number 3,4,6 and 8)meanwhile the other fingers will play on the left top part ( pads number 1,2,5 and 7). Of course, this is not fixed rules to be followed. We might develop our own style with different pad layout.

FINGERS
Let's imagine that our fingers act as a pair of stick, bass and hi-hat pedals. We assume that we set up acoustic drum so at least we need 4 fingers to do such job. There are many possibilities to play tapdrum not just as a standard acoustic drum, but also play percussion and other sound effects.

EXAMPLE
Look at the both pictures above and see configuration here to figure out how to simulate acoustic drum and play tapdrum like real drummer.
